In drive technology, it was previously very difficult to collect data in near real time. Reason: The rotating drive train, which cannot be connected directly with a cable. This is now changing with the integrated sensor technology from R+W. It can be easily integrated into already installed couplings. Installation is just as easy as it is quick, which reduces the integration effort and acquisition costs to a minimum. Thanks to the integration into an existing component, neither additional installation space nor auxiliary constructions are required.
In addition to multi-plate and safety couplings, cardan shafts and flanges, the standard product, the bellows coupling from R+W, with integrated sensors, has recently been available. The difference to the previous series with the sensor technology is the significantly shorter design, e.g. with the cardan shafts. With the compact design of the new type of bellows coupling, only the bore diameter varies compared to the standard variant.
In addition to all the properties of a series coupling, the intelligent coupling also serves as a wireless measuring unit. The integrated sensor technology measures e.g. torque, speed, acceleration and optionally also axial forces and lateral forces directly from the rotating drive train. Various options are available for supplying energy. In addition to a solution with rechargeable batteries or induction, there is now a new self-sufficient energy supply – called energy harvesting. With this variant, we make use of the rotational energy that is already present in the drive train. As a result, the sensors are permanently supplied with energy. Energy harvesting is particularly suitable for areas where there should be no downtimes and for places that are difficult to access, i.e. where power supply is not possible.
