Our customer Roehm is one of the leading chemical manufacturers in the methacrylate business with more than 3,500 employees and 13 production sites on four continents. Its broad product portfolio includes the world-famous PLEXIGLAS® brand (registered in the Americas as ACRYLITE®).
With the introduction of SAP S/4HANA EAM Best Practices, the way maintenance processes are managed has evolved. The phase-based maintenance processes provide companies like Röhm with a more efficient and flexible way to manage their day-to-day work. From initiation to screening, planning, approval, preparation, scheduling, execution, post-execution and closure, a maximum of nine phases can be implemented, although not all are mandatory. The clear structure allows end users to better understand and intuitively navigate through the process lifecycle.
Lessons Learned:
Roehm’s challenges before implementing SAP S/4HANA included extensive customizing, a large amount of historical master data, complex processes, and a lot of custom development. The vision for the project was to achieve harmonized master data, fewer custom developments, and globally harmonized processes.

Röhm chose the greenfield approach and implemented S/4HANA Release 2021 as RISE with SAP S/4HANA Cloud, private edition on Azure and SAP Fiori Launchpad for enhanced user experience. SAP Best Practices were used for both reactive maintenance (4HH) and proactive maintenance (4HI). In addition, the checklist solution has been integrated and SAP Service and Asset Manager will soon be available for mobile users.
